CDC Mental Health Guidelines during Pandemic:
Center for Disease Control (CDC) acknowledged that people may experience increased stress during this pandemic and emphasized the importance of taking care of your mental health at this time because fear and anxiety can be overwhelming and cause strong emotions. More than a third of Americans are reporting COVID-related increase in symptoms of anxiety and depression.
CDC published Mental Health Resources and Guidelines to support people in dealing with the stress and uncertainty of the pandemic.
Engaging in Counseling:
It takes tremendous courage, strength, and wisdom to take responsibility for improving the quality of life for yourself and your loved ones. Unfortunately, counseling, psychotherapy, and especially somatic therapy and alternative body-based and energy-based healing modalities are still misunderstood and stigmatized in our society. Even though help is readily available to those who need it, seeking help from mental health professionals is often perceived as a sign of weakness.
It is absolutely not a sign of weakness. Quite the opposite is true. When you engage in counseling, you take a step towards resolving your trauma, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, addiction, or relationship issues, you are breaking a dysfunctional pattern that has been passed down for generations.
Most people wouldn’t hesitate to seek help for a physical illness from a medical doctor. Mental health is equally if not more important to our felt sense of well-being and our quality of life than physical health alone. Research has shown that many chronic physical illness are triggered by stress, trauma, and unresolved emotional experiences.
It is time for us to make our mental health a priority and take committed action towards holistic healing.
